Masha - Woman Life Freedom

The Persian Empire, known for its kindness, tolerance, and respect for women, led for thousands of years by a monarchy, was overthrown by an Islamic revolution in 1979. The new regime started imposing strict laws upon the Iranian people, violating their basic human rights.

For more than four decades the Iranian people have fought against this regime and their brutal abuse of power.

On September 16 of 2022, Mahsa Zhina Amini was killed by the “morality police” of Tehran for wearing her hijab in a loose manner. Her death ignited an international movement against the government of Iran.

This movement, titled Woman Life Freedom, became the biggest protest against the Iranian regime since the 1979 revolution.

The Iranian regime fought back against the Woman Life Freedom movement, and killed its own people, with zero hesitation.

The Iranian government has admitted to killing more than 550 people, but the reported number is in the thousands.

This piece is dedicated to the fallen, and their families.

We must never forget.

Country of Origin: United States

ROB WAUGH, Director

Shahrad Fredotti was born in 1984 in Tehran. He moved out of the country on his own at the age of 17. He graduated from Biomedical Engineering from Bradford University in Bradford, England back in 2006. He started acting and modeling part-time as a student back in 2005. He moved to Toronto, Canada in 2007, and gained his Master's (MS) in Biomedical Physics from Toronto Metropolitan University in 2011.

After his graduation, Shahrad decided to follow his passion for film and music. He started his Opera, and Theater training the same year (2011). He wrote, and produced his debut album (Melody) right before he left Canada. His love for acting grew more and more, and decided to focus on acting in Theater and Film rather than being a singer/songwriter.

He wrote, produced and directed his first film (Hollow Me) back in 2018, which earned him 11 awards from national and international festivals. Since then he has played a number of lead roles in feature, and short films, as well as lead and supporting roles in 5 theaters.

He has also been very active in the commercial field, and has acted in more than 20 national campaigns/ads.

Director's Statement:
This piece is really close to my heart. I started the project back in October of 2022, just a month after Mahsa was killed back in Iran. So many obstacles along the way, so many, even threats!

I made myself a promise that no matter what, I am going to finish the project and let the world know what really happened in Iran in 2022. As an Iranian, who has lived there for a portion of his life, I knew it my duty, and it was one of the only things that I was capable of doing.

So many talents gave up along the way once the project started as they got scared, but I pushed forward and made more connections and started the project back up again. The piece has been recorded and produced in three countries of USA, Canada, and Iran.

The very fact that the talents behind the project that reside in Iran shall remain nameless tells you everything. They are all given nicknames in the credits part of the film.

If we do not speak up, who will!?
